Painting has been my way of grappling with emotional turmoil. Only recently have I recognized the value of this background as a life-giving force which gives metamorphosis a place in my life. A context of dichotomy is a recurring theme of my paintings: death, dystopia, and despair coexist in harmony with seeking, regeneration, and longing for an eternal home. To me, this dichotomy makes painting much more interesting. Dark, rough, energetic lines are interposed with smooth curves to create a sense of pull and push, each vying for domination. Faint veils of pastel-like color wash against dark backgrounds in a dream-like state, yearning for an unattainable destination. Abstraction merges with representation.
